The Makings of the 2012 London Olympics

In an effort to increase tourism revenue and promote nationalism, four countries host the Summer Olympic Games every four years.

The Games of the XXX Olympiad will see the best athletes from around the globe travel to London, England in 2012. From July 27th through August 12th 2012, the Games of the XXX Olympiad will be an internationally recognized sporting event.

Sebastian Coe (the Mayor of London) and the former Olympic champion formed a team which eventually beat Paris, New York City and Madrid to host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

After many days of considering and weighing the options among five cities, the International Olympic Committee chose London to host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. London became the first city to host the Olympic Games three times in a row, a record.

Sustainable practices were used by the designers of the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games. On an industrial site in Stratford, on the east side of London, the mayor has designated a 200-hectare Olympic Park.

The layout of the Summer Olympic Games includes venues that were already in place before the bid was made. To further develop London’s eastern side, the Mayor supported the bid.

After the successful placement of the bid, the Mayor announced that the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games would be responsible for staging the events.

The Government Olympic Executive (GOE), which includes management before and after the Games, will also coordinate the activities of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee expressed concerns about London hosting the Games in the summer of 2011. However, this concern was quickly dispelled by the IOC as the number of riots steadily decreased over the following months.

The overseeing committees ordered the division into three zones within Greater London. These include the Olympic, River and Central zones.

The Olympic Games facilities will not be re-sized or relocated. The International Olympic Committee was not concerned about London’s landmarks, as it was the worst of its terrible public transportation system.

Needless to mention, the Mayor of London promised to the IOC that improvements would be made over the next seven year to allow tourists to travel freely with minimal hassle.

It would have been difficult for the athletes to commute through London’s terrible traffic. The overseeing committees promised that eighty percent of athletes would travel less than 20 minutes to their sporting events. Unrelated traffic and transport modes for trade routes are also causes of concern.

As the original budget for the Games, the overseeing committees were given approximately two-and-a-half billion euros.

The budget was split into six funds. These funds covered the construction of venues and infrastructure, support for the Paralympics and policing services, as well as regenerating Lower Lea Valley and contingency funds.

The Mayor of London promised that the Games would bring in a profit for the city. The Games are funded by the private sector, corporate sponsorships, merchandising revenue, broadcasting revenues, ticket sales, and corporate sponsorship.

Two Oxford students conducted an Oxford study that revealed that the London 2012 Games are the most expensive Summer Olympic Games ever.

The 2012 London Games will have many workers. However, there will be a large number of volunteers who will do a wide range of tasks before, during and after the Olympic Games.

Depending on the popularity of sporting events and availability of seating, tourists will be charged between twenty-two thousand and two thousand euros for each one, particularly first-class seats for swimming and gymnastics events.
